Sibel Allinson, who led the event with her colleague, Adeline Daly from APM WiPM said:
I have been working on Women’s projects globally for nearly 20 years through my own charity and been thinking about organising a women’s day event here for a while, but it hasn’t happened. I was lucky to meet Adeline Daly, my co-host this afternoon, at a Women’s Conference that she was chairing: and she was the Perfect Partner! After sharing some ideas, we decided to host this event together.
As I’m sure you’re aware, the majority of staff working in higher education in the UK are women, but we continue to be underrepresented at the most senior levels. The challenge to increase the pace of change remains. With this event, we aim to celebrate women’s achievements while calling for gender equality in line with the International Women’s Day theme for 2020, which is “#EachforEqual”.
A big thank you to everyone at UIS who kindly volunteered their time and helped make everything run smoothly.
